Into the Woods
Into the Woods was photographed in one of my favorite local parks and is dedicated to the memory of my beloved Irish Wolfhound, Keely Gurl. These images invite viewers into a space of wonder where light becomes both subject and storyteller. Through intentional movement of the camera, I seek to reveal the unseen energies that linger between past and present, memory and dream. Trees shimmer with sacred resonance, their branches holding echoes of childhood tales, both whimsical and shadowed. In their golden glow, I find whispers of enchantment, where spider webs sparkle like spun silver and leaves tremble with hidden stories.
For me, this work is not just about capturing a scene, but about stepping into a realm where texture, shape, and spirit intertwine. The act of photographing becomes a kind of ritual, a dialogue between my body’s gestures and the natural world around me. These layered images blur the boundary between what is seen and what is felt, reminding me that light itself carries memory, mystery, and transformation. Into the Woods is my love letter to nature’s quiet magic, a reminder that even in stillness, something powerful is always moving beneath the surface.
This series was created using intentional camera movement during golden hour, when light softens and deepens the textures of the park. I move my camera in circular patterns, half-arcs, zigzags, and freeform gestures, allowing motion to become part of the storytelling. At times, I zoom in and out or pause mid-exposure, layering plants and trees at varying depths within a single frame. My camera settings are adjusted manually to embrace blur and motion, creating painterly effects in-camera. Later, in Photoshop, I intuitively combine multiple exposures, layering them with unique blending modes that shape unexpected harmonies of light, shadow, and form. The process is both structured and intuitive, merging discipline with play. The result is an ethereal dance of light and memory, echoing my own movements through time and space.
